The Uneligable Parent

There are numerous families that do not have the ability to conceive. They are on long waiting lists for foster children due to the extensive process, and in worse case scenarios are told they are not eligible. They spend thousands of dollars trying envitro and fertility drugs to get nothing in the end. They try surrogates for the surrogate mom to not be able to let the child go in the end. On the other hand, there is a system full of children with no parents to take and care for them. There is no one to provide that daily nurturing and self esteem boost that they so deeply need. Then we have the people that can have children and do nothing but take that mere privilege for granted.
I'm talking about the parents that have no intentions of sustaining a career other than making babies and waiting for government assistance. Assistance that the hard working tax paying people can't get even on their worse day. Assistance that never sees the child because its being spent on the parents best interests while the kids needs are no where in thought.
I'm talking about the parents that birth children and then use them as their personal punching bags. The children that are not only punched physically, but also punched mentally, emotionally, and Socially through everyday conversations. The children that once in adulthood don't even know how to interact with society due to their parents abuse. Parents that cause these children to live everyday in fear of being hurt.

I'm talking about the parents that use their children as their own personal slaves. Children that don't see the outside other than when going to school because their parents have them in the house catering to their every needs. The children that are forced day in and day out to scrub and maintain a household that they have no clue how to run. Not the average "clean up after yourself". Oh no, I'm talking about "here you take this toothbrush and scrub the cracks of those bathroom tiles".

I'm talking about the parents that take no responsibility for their lives or actions. Rather, when something goes wrong the children are to blame. They want to run home based businesses, but don't want to provide a home that is sustainable and presentable to run that business. Then when the clients don't want to come back, its the children's fault. Parents that don't want to work but blame the child and their school schedules for their inabilities to be providers. Parents that have been in the same financial positions for over 10 years, have had more children since then, yet their current situations are those kids fault.
I'm talking about the parents that are suppose to be role models. Living examples. Mentors. Teachers. Yet these are the same parents that are 40 years old though you would not know that when they begin to speak. They speak and walk the generation slang as if they are still in high school and it suppose to cute and admirable. It's not. I'm talking about the 40 year old parents that can't help their children with their home work, not because they themselves do not understand it, but rather they do not feel it important enough to take the time out of them doing nothing to help.
It's time these parents wake up to reality. A child should not have to raise themselves. They should not have to learn life lesson's on their own. Granted their are some families where these situations are not avoidable. But those are not the families that I speak of here. I speak of the families where the parents no better but don't care. Where they can provide but don't because it does not fit their idea of day to day activities. These children did not ask to be birthed and thus should not have to live with their parents choices.
It's time that we resort back to communities. Step in when we can and leave when we should. Not to overstep your boundaries. But if you take your children to school and you see the kids next door that walk 2 miles to get to the same school your driving to, give them a ride. When you know that the family down the street starves their children, slip them food to eat when you can. It only takes a little bit of effort for a child to know that someone cares. Even the worst children in your neighborhood could appreciate an occasion thank you when they do something noble.

Takig Responsibiliy

Many of you make the choice to live the fast life. Steal cars, sell drugs. Would you consider that your present career? If so, don't you think you should educate yourself like you would for any other career?

If selling drugs is your thing, than learn the rules of the drug game. Learn that the cops must see a physical hand to hand trade to make a drug deal stick. Learn the crack versus powder law and how 5 grams of crack gets you a longer sentence than 5 grams of powder. Learn that 3 times congress has refused to change the crack vs powder law even though they had scientist that testified crack and cocaine is the same drug when broken down chemically thus should carry the same sentence. Know that when it comes to selling drugs it is more likely for a minority to get caught than your white coller neighbor.

If you want a career stealing cars, than know that its 2009 and most cars have tracking devices. Know that all cars have serial numbers in more than one place so they may be just a little bit hard to scratch out. Know that if your caught, its going to be very hard to get out of. Or if you cause any damages to the car or any property that you could potentially be responsible for the repair costs of all the damages.

Bottom line, its not hard to educate yourself. Go to the library and read while your there. Or, oh, apply for a free library card and the rent the book for free. Don't be stupid with your future. Though i don't condone doing either of the above. But living a life full of criminal acts comes with a lot of consequences, so make sure you know what they are ahead of time.

Today's Justice System

As the years go on we continue to have a steady increase in the number of criminals behind bars. Its to the point where we have our government officials building more jails. More jails and less fathers. More jails and less mothers, less mentors, less guiders. What is our world coming to? Why do we have more money invested in our justice system than we do our schools? If the government could possibly take a fraction of what they invest or make off the justice system and put it into the schools, than just maybe our children can see something more positive than negative. Maybe they can appreciate the places a good education will take them. Maybe they will learn that they don't have to be millionaires to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Parents, what are we doing? Granted the economy requires we work 1 sometimes 2 full time jobs just to care for our families. More times than not we are single parents trying to do it all on our own. But that means that we have to work twice as hard to make sure that our children stay on a good path. Get them into reading, sports, after school programs, extra curricular activities. Don't leave them with Dougy next door that you know sells crack for a living. Don't let money be an issue. Many of these programs offer scholarships and grants for struggling families. Write the essay while on your lunch break or on the train ride home. Sit your child down with you while your writing out your monthly bills so that they can learn good money habits. Its not going to be easy but it is a start.

A lot of first time offenders are arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or being ignorant to their surrounds or constitutional rights. More so, many become second and third time offenders due to the barriers that we as a society have in place. Many jobs won't hire an ex convict. They can't get financial aid for higher education. They can't get any type of government funded job. They are typically left with the lower bottom scale jobs if they can even get that. Why won't we hire an ex convict? How can we as a society expect them to prosper if we do not provide the tools for them to do so. No one asks for an easy road, but they can ask for a chance.

I can understand if they were convicted of a heinous crime, but marijuana possession in a minute amount? assault and battery while still a minor or in protection of a family member or loved one? Being convicted of only 1 crime their entire life? Who are we to say that this man or this woman is not a reformed person? Who are we to say that they have not learned their lesson? Do we not trust them to stay on a good track when anyone of us could easily be a criminal if put in the position to resort to it. Tell me something. If a man was holding you hostage while brutally beating your wife and you could break free, would you not severely beat that person, possibly even to death? You would.

Or maybe our problem is not with the convict. Maybe our problem is that we are scared. We cannot let go of our ignorance to their crimes. Maybe we are afraid that we could not be equal employers due to their pasts. We as a society like to turn up our noses to people not like us. We tend to think we are better than others not in the same social class as we are. We tend to turn our heads the other way when we see things that aren't right and pretend that they never happened or we never saw it. Well guess what? that makes us just as guilty as the criminals convicted of the crimes. That makes us just as guilty as the government officials that are making money off of our justice system. Now how do you feel about that? What if the person filling out that job application was actually innocent when convicted?
